Land Securities has finally got the ultimate go-ahead for it's redevelopment of Park House on Oxford Street in the heart of London's famous shopping district.

The scheme by "Electric Razor" architects Hamiltons is the largest redevelopment along Oxford Street for decades, but was bogged down in two judicial reviews brought by Fladgate LLP who opposed the planning permission the scheme was awarded by the City of Westminster Council in a case that failed to win over the judges of the High Court.

The site at 116 Park Street was previously occupied by a 57 metre tall 1960s office block that was demolished in 2008 freeing up a site of 0.42 hectares that occupied a whole city block.

The redevelopment will feature 31,100 square metres of office space plus three floors of retail and 39 new apartments but rise to a mere nine floors removing the landmark aspect of the previous building which effectively gave a visual marking of one end of Oxford Street.

Hamiltons took their cues for the building from the aerodynamic shape of futuristic motorcars and developed the scheme from there into its current almost egg-like form with a smooth curving roofline.
