A planning application for a new 44 floor tall building to stand in London's Elephant and Castle on the site of Eileen House.

Designed by Allies and Morrison Architects for Oakmayne Properties, the development features two buildings with a shared basement and a new planned public space set to stand between them.

One is a triangular 8 floor office and educational building with ground floor retail, and the other a tall residential tower with 369 apartments, 85 of which will be shared ownership, plus some office space on floors one and two.

The tower will have a maximum height of 134.05 metres, or 137 metres above sea level making it one of the tallest buildings planned in Elephant Castle but 13 metres shorter than the under construction Strata. Combined with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners London 360 London, the three towers will form points of a triangle around Elephant and Castle's central core.

The design of the tower is essentially that of a parallelogram with two diagonal slices cutting the corners off the top of it revealing triangular angled faces to the east and west having the effect of changing the look of the top of the building depending on where it is viewed from.

In terms of the cladding the buildings feature reconstituted light stone for the most part with recessed full height window bays, whilst the upper triangular facades of the tower will be clad in horizontal metal louvres over inclined glass. It is within these louvres that the architect has designed solar panels to help contribute to the electricity supply of the building.

The end result is a strongly repetitive look decorating the scheme, and an overall feeling of solidity, the sharp corners aside, which will be have glazed cladding to give them a transparent finish.
